+1, and even more so in Canada. Again, there is always room for error, but generally they all are reasonably good, well-intended and forgiving people of as high integrity as society could produce.

Since I kind of had exposure through friends of family into both systems, German and Canadian - as a friend, not a subject, I think in Canada the whole system is much more balanced, diverse and professional. But again, one should put "much more" into perspective. If one compares to post-soviet 90s, then both systems would be far beyond horizon and out of reach. That said, police in most German cities and towns are less paid and less educated than in British and Canadian cities and towns of comparable size and appeal. It pushes up - into staff officers, detectives etc.
Beyond couple speed tickets, I never dealt with US system, but it seems much less forgiving and less balanced, compared to Canadian one - at least based on the small talk in the line-up to prosecutor to fight the driving ticket.

the US system is definitely not designed to be forgiving. nor balanced at the level of police. . the idea is always - it is either a law you broke or no law - and if police thinks you did, there is no use to argue. in fact, it is dangerous to argue. they can kill you if you argue, and get away with it. justice does get more just at the next level. for example, a kid who gets a disproportionately ugly and even racist treatment during traffic stop will get a lenient judge who will consider lack of prior offenses, the kids' general "gestalt", and let him off easy.

on the other hand, there are ... cases where you say wowowwow, never let's never get in this system from the wrong end.
an acquaintance in boston years back was accused by a vengeful and mentally unstable wife, he wanted to leave her - of molesting their child. the "wheels of justice" nearly ground him up - he emerged vindicated but thouroughly broken and broke by the process.
