Date: 2010-01-20 03:21 am (UTC)

Date: 2010-01-21 09:58 pm (UTC)we were discussiong charity. you were mentioning Mayo as nonprofit, making me think you are confusing charity and nonprofit. basically all academic places are NPOs with no exceptions, so i was never comparing costs of NPOs and private institutions. i was arguing about charity. so your comment about Mayo was sort of an offtopic.
because you cannot be seen at the Clinic until you either pay or show guarantee of payment and co-pay. so as NPOs go, Mayo is as far removed from charity as possible. big university clinics, however, see nonpaying patients - both medicaid and self-pay, whihc often means no-pay - and those clinics never ask to pay ahead the way Mayo does. thus Mayo ( and some other elite places, Cleveland Clinic, Intermountain medical systems) is in the black and the vast majority of NPO clinics are deeply in the red.

Date: 2010-01-21 11:06 pm (UTC)As for Mayo demanding pre-payment. It's reasonable - they are trying to cut overhead cost. That was they will not get stuck with unpaid bill or will have t waste resources on the collection agency.

Date: 2010-01-22 01:31 am (UTC)arbat and his acolytes don't offer how to install the system of "direct support". they use rhetoric but have no suggestions. because they don't give a damn. the honest ones - shlafsig - say so openly. cannot find a donor - die, go ahead, see if i care.
as for Mayo. i am not saying it is unreasonable. i am saying it makes the famous clinic consults out of bounds for the nonrich and the uninsured.
